About The Author
The author has a deep love of Golden Retrievers. Her parents' first Golden Retriever was born before she reached her teens and since then she has never been without a Golden by her side.
After enjoying success with her Goldens in the show ring in Victoria throughout her youth, Mrs Morphet began to focus on judging in the mid 1980s. She achieved her Gundog licence followed by licences for Working Dogs, Hounds and Terriers completing well over 100 judging appointments throughout Australia and New Zealand, including several Golden Retriever Specialty Shows.
After moving to Queensland, marrying and having three daughters, Mrs Morphet returned to study, focussing on Pure Mathematics and Statistics with Genetics and Animal Behaviour as electives. She later completed a Research Masters in Biostatistics. This academic and research background has enabled her to complete voluntary research, using published data, on hip dysplasia in the Golden Retriever.
Mrs Morphet holds positions on a number of committees in Australia including The Canine Health Sub Committee, The Canine Control Library Committee and the Committee of The National Golden Retriever Council . Additionally, she has also held the position of Co-ordinator of Gundog Judges Training, though more recently has been involved in assessing judges for their hands-on examinations.
Her motivation behind writing this book stemmed from her wish to document the development of the Golden Retriever, specifically focussing on the first century in the show ring, thereby acknowledging wonderful dogs and recognizing many famous kennels that have devoted decades to the advancement of the breed. Additionally, the author hopes to pass on profits from the sale of the book to areas of research important to Golden Retriever enthusiasts.
